Grace Jamison’s case is a cautionary tale we should not ignore.
At the age of 19, she suffered a serious infection after showering while wearing her contact lenses. There were Acanthamoebas in the water, a microorganism that can lead to a severe infection called Acanthamoeba keratitis.
Lenses can make it easier for this microorganism to get stuck on the ocular surface, increasing the risk of infections.
Result: intense pain, inflammation, blurry vision, and permanent damage to one of her eyes.
🚨 Things to avoid:
– Showering or swimming while wearing contact lenses.
– Sleeping with contact lenses on.
– Reusing contact lenses solution instead of replacing it.
– Touching contact lenses without having washed your hands.
Grace’s treatment was long, painful, and complex. And even though she partially recovered her vision, she is still struggling.
That is why this is an especially important message: do not underestimate how you use and handle your contact lenses.
