Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Taupo, NZ was special. While I wasn’t as fast as I hoped or trained to be, this year was about the process, the experience and the people with whom I got to share it all. As 2024 comes to a close, a lot of lessons were learned and I’m appreciative of that learning.
1. I love the process of training for endurance sports and, while it could look different over time, I’ll always be “training” in some form.
2. You never stop missing creatures (in my case Summit) that significantly impact your life. While grief changes, the missing goes on, yet the important ones show up in your memory all the time.
3. This one is reinforcement, but life is short and the next day or your state of health is never guaranteed. So many reminders this year to live purposefully, do all the adventures and spend time with the ones you love and the people who fill your cup.
4. Training is best done in the company of friends.
Especially grateful for my #1 - love you and appreciate you! ❤️❤️❤️

Off-season came earlier than expected this year. I am supposed to be racing Long Course Nationals in Daytona this weekend, but my body sent me a very clear message that it’s time to rest in the form of a hamstring strain and an out-of-blue back injury. I am sad that I wasn’t able to see what I could do in Florida and equally sad that I didn’t put together my best race this season. But, I am grateful for a tremendous amount of learning, many wonderful training moments with friends and the many people who helped me this season. 2023 has allowed me to better understand why I do triathlon and how I want to approach the sport going forward. As I look to 2024, I will take the lessons I have learned, apply them and try to become my best self in triathlon and beyond. Now for a glass of wine, time with (best husband ever) and Mare bear, and some skinning (as soon as this back is a little less angry). Posted this image from The Tour of New Zealand because it was my first race of the season and my favorite race of 2023.
