Parents and families in Bernards Township need to pay attention to this.

The Board of Education is proposing new “pay-to-play” fees for students participating in sports and activities:

• Up to $100 per student at Ridge High School
• Up to $50 per student at William Annin
• Covers multiple sports and clubs, but still a new cost for families

This is expected to generate about $500,000, but it comes alongside:

• $2.5 million in staff reductions (25–30 positions)
• A 4.98% tax increase
• A budget gap of roughly $6 million

The biggest driver is rising healthcare costs, up nearly 14% (about $3 million).

For the average Bernards home, that means about a $489 increase in property taxes.

So families are now facing:
Higher taxes
Fewer staff
And new fees just for students to participate
