It has been a full year since the Bastrop Commissioners Court agreed to move and relocate the two Confederate Monuments from the Bastrop County Courthouse Lawn and on Monday there is one final step to overcome to begin laying the foundation for the project. We will be attending with the Texas Historical Comission Meeting to speak during public comments and urge the commission to approve our permit application to relocate the monuments.
We were initially hoping to gain approval in April however the Commission tabled the discussion and requested more information from the court to include looking at other options for placement of the structures. Commissioners Court complied with there request, and then they asked for a Concept Proposal of the talked about Heritage Park. Again the Commissioners Court complied with their request. Judge Pape has done everything possible to satisfy their concerns, we have raised the funds, secured a location, and the Antiquties Committee has recommended approval of our Application. It is time for the commission to grant our request.
If you are available, please join us on Monday as we testify to the commission directly and ask them to stop this delay and grant approval. Please see information below on location and time and support what we as a community worked so hard to achieve 🙏🏽

Things to do in Bastrop tomorrow-10a Bastrop County Courthose Grounds
The Bastrop Monument Relocation Committee will be hosting a ceremony event to mark the beginning of the process to remove two Confederate Monuments from the Bastrop County Courthouse Grounds. The relocation effort had two goals, (1) Help Bastrop County promote an environment of racial equality by removing the structures from the courthouse grounds; a place that should represent equal justice for all, and (2) Ensure that the history of the two monuments are represented and placed in the right historical context. The committee was charged with finding a new location for the monuments and raising the funds ($50,000) needed to complete the move project. We were successful in both efforts. The monuments will be relocated to County property off of Hwy 95 and Cool Water Dr, and the project is projected to begin over the next 2-3 months.
If you live in the area, please join us on this Saturday, March 27th @ 10a on the Bastrop County Courthouse Grounds for a small ceremony, as we reflect on the efforts of the community initiative to create change and equality in Bastrop County. The event will mark the beginning of that change by collectively acknowledging, understanding, supporting, and respecting the historical significance of the monuments, and the work that we did to together as a community, to coordinate a dignified way for removal and relocation to a space that will transform the way our Counties history is told in public spaces. This move will ensure that future generations inherit a commemorative landscape that reflects the appropriate narrative, and includes those who have often been denied historical recognition.
Thank you all for the support you showed to help make this move possible. We hope that each of you will be able to find time in your schedule to join us for this brief but momentous occasion.
