{Fairway Woods} As you move through the clubs in the bag, the ball position changes slightly to allow us to hit more or less down on the golf ball.

For any ball on the ground you will need some sort of downward angle of attack to hit the ball properly. Conversely, when hitting a ball off the tee you can hit slightly more upwards on the golf ball (possibly still down, but less downwards) and create lift that way as well.
