I've spent my life around two kinds of calls. The kind where someone's having the worst day of their life and needs someone calm, fast, and exact. And the kind where a truck rolls up to fix something broken before it gets worse.

Paramedic and HVAC tech. Dispatch and diagnostics. Those two backgrounds taught me the same lesson from different directions: you don't get to be sloppy when someone's counting on you, and you don't get to wait until it's an emergency to start paying attention.
