10 Jack Facts:
1. The famous cave spring at the Jack Daniel Distillery produces water that stays around 56°F year-round — one reason Jack Daniel chose the location in the 1800s.
2. Even though the distillery is located in Moore County, Tennessee, the county has historically been “dry,” meaning whiskey couldn’t legally be sold there for many years.
3. Every drop of Jack Daniel's is mellowed through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal before aging — a process known as the Lincoln County Process.
4. The distillery makes its own charcoal on-site by burning massive stacks of sugar maple wood in open-air ricks.
5. The iconic square bottle wasn’t introduced until the late 1800s. Jack reportedly chose the square shape because it stood out more on shelves and packed more efficiently.
6. The town of Lynchburg only has a population of a few thousand people, yet millions of visitors have toured the distillery over the years.
7. The original safe in Jack Daniel’s office led to the injury that contributed to his death. Legend says he kicked the safe in frustration after forgetting the combination, injuring his toe.
8. Barrels used at the distillery are only used once for aging Jack Daniel's. Afterward, many are sold to breweries, rum makers, and Scotch whisky distilleries around the world.
9. The famous “Old No. 7” name still has no officially confirmed meaning. Theories range from a lucky number to a railroad route to a government registration number.
10. The distillery’s massive barrel warehouses, called rickhouses, can hold tens of thousands of barrels each — and the whiskey ages differently depending on where the barrel sits inside the building.
Bonus fact: At any given time, the Jack Daniel Distillery holds over 2 million barrels of whiskey, aging to perfection.
