I was saddened to hear of the passing of Senator Larry Selders. He is gone far too soon, at only 44. Larry served Baton Rouge with real commitment, and our community is better for his work. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, staff, and everyone who knew him. Rest in peace, Senator. – HM

JUST IN: Louisiana State Senator Larry Selders has died.

A conviction doesn't always mark the end of a criminal case. When a conviction is appealed, it undergoes additional review by the courts.

In State v. Curtis Lee Stewart, Jr., the Louisiana Supreme Court reinstated the defendant's second-degree murder conviction, reversing the First Circuit Court of Appeal and concluding that the evidence was sufficient to support the jury's verdict.

This decision reaffirms the importance of the appellate process and the role it plays in ensuring that justice is carried out under the law.

Accountability affirmed. Justice served.
