One of the most significant milestones in LASERS' 80-year history was achieved in 2026.

Through Act 961, the Louisiana Legislature appropriated $145 million to fully pay off LASERS' Initial Unfunded Accrued Liability (IUAL), the original debt established when the System was created in 1946.

This historic achievement reflects decades of responsible funding, pension reform, and collaboration among state leaders, the Board of Trustees, and LASERS staff. Eliminating the IUAL strengthens the System's financial foundation and reinforces our long-term commitment to providing retirement security for Louisiana's public employees, retirees, and beneficiaries.

As we celebrate 80 years of service, we're proud to recognize this milestone and the many leaders whose vision and stewardship have helped build a stronger retirement system for generations to come.

๐ŸŽ‰ We're Celebrating 80 Years of Service! ๐ŸŽ‰

This month, LASERS proudly celebrates 80 years of serving Louisiana's public employees, retirees, and beneficiaries.

Established by the Louisiana Legislature in July 1946, LASERS began with an initial investment of $725,000.

Today, the System administers 24 retirement plans, serves nearly 100,000 members and their families on behalf of 346 employers statewide, and manages more than $17 billion in assets.

Over the past eight decades, LASERS has grown alongside the workforce it serves, adapting to changing times, embracing new technology, and strengthening retirement security for generations of Louisiana public servants.

Throughout July, we'll be sharing memorable moments and the people who helped shape LASERS into the organization it is today.

Thank you to our members, retirees, staff, trustees, and state leaders for being part of our story. Here's to the next chapter!
