WorkReady U, Louisiana's Comprehensive Adult Education Network, provides FREE education & training for adults

10/01/2025

Not only did Governor Jeff Landry officially proclaim September as ADULT EDUCATION & FAMILY LITERACY (AEFL) MONTH in Louisiana, but he also gave us this shout-out. What a great way to end the month! 🙌 📜

📢Thanks to the work of LAPCAE (Louisiana Association for Public, Community, & Adult Education) and the Louisiana Community & Technical College System WorkReady U Adult Education network for building awareness and elevating the importance of upskilling and educating adults across our state. Find out how Adult Education can help YOU or someone you know open doors to new careers, better pay, and personal growth through high school equivalency pathways, workforce training, and dual enrollment in college classes. https://www.lctcs.edu/workready-u

Adult Education programs like WorkReady U at River Parishes Community College may start with literacy skills and high school equivalency preparation, but they go FAR beyond that. They teach students like Trinika to listen to their hearts, commit to their personal goals, and make their career dreams become a reality. (https://www.rpcc.edu/adult-education)

▶️ 🎯 "I am here because of my passion for returning to school to receive my high school diploma. I've been doing this thing for some time now. My most immediate goal that I have accomplished is finishing what I started. I've learned to be consistent, stay on task, and my goal is to finish on top.

Once I am done with my Nursing Program, I look forward to working in a hospital setting to live out my dreams since I was a little girl. Taking care of my mother set the tone for me to FOLLOW MY HEART." 💙 💚

Access to education and employment training are essential for the success and wellness of individuals both living in and also exiting our correctional systems. Our WorkReady U teachers and tutors working in the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections see potential in those who have rarely seen or valued their own abilities. Adult Education is a SECOND CHANCE desperately needed by so many, especially students like John.

📝 "I was definitely nervous at first, being that I was one of the older guys among a group of boisterous young people. However, Chaplain Chris and my peer tutors taught us in a way that was not only relatable but also helped strengthen the bond we classmates desperately needed. Many days we were pushed to our limits, and some were pure frustration. But I knew I just had to get my education. I had made it this far through life and prison and surely wasn’t going to short myself of all the hard work I put in. Lord, You’ve known I’ve wanted this for 36 years, I prayed, this is my opportunity.

This is an achievement of a lifetime that nobody can take away. In many instances, having a diploma equates to better jobs and wages. In all, however, it gives men a sense of pride and esteem that allows them to hold their head higher and more confidently in life’s situations. This class has shown me that there are indeed individuals and groups concerned with the well-being and advancement of incarcerated individuals in Louisiana." 🩵
