This weekend, the Georgetown Library is hosting a virtual workshop on "Identifying Enslaved and Freed Black Individuals in the Historical Resources at Georgetown." There will also be a second workshop in February. More information is below and attached, including links to RSVP. Virtual Workshop Identifying Enslaved and Freed Black Individuals in the Historical Resources at Georgetown

1:00-2:30 p.m. (EST)

The first of two demonstrations of how to use the Archives of the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus, the Georgetown Slavery Archive, and other digital sites to identify the people enslaved by the Jesuits and the Black church members who helped the Jesuits build parishes after emancipation.

A second virtual workshop is scheduled for Sunday, February 22, 2026, 5:00-6:30, to ensure that as many people can attend as possible. The February 22 session will be recorded and then posted for future reference.

The workshops will address:
- The extent of the records held by Georgetown

- The use of the Georgetown Slavery Archive to access financial records (especially)

- Using the finding aid for the Maryland Province Archives

- Understanding the church records held by Georgetown and using them to identify Black parishioners

- Connecting records held at Georgetown with those held by other repositories
