The City of Baton Rouge

Several downtown streets will be closed on Saturday, July 4, as the City-Parish hosts Independence Day festivities.

The following streets will be closed between noon and 10 p.m. (see attached map for details):
River Road between Florida St. and South Blvd.
Lafayette St., south of Florida St.
Third St. between Florida St. and North Blvd.
St. Louis St. between North Blvd. and Government St.

Several downtown parking garages and parking lots will be open, but are expected to fill up by 5 p.m.

The Independence Day celebration downtown will begin at the Old State Capitol at 9 a.m. with the 4th of July Extravaganza that includes family-friendly activities and a rare opportunity to view the original Louisiana Purchase document, signed by Napoleon Bonaparte.

Between 2 and 9 p.m., the “America250 on the River Concert” at Repentence Park will feature live performances by Amanda Shaw, Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr., John Schneider, and Wayne Toups.

At 9 p.m., WBRZ’s “Fireworks on the Mississippi” will light the skies over the Mississippi River as an ending tribute to America’s special holiday.
