The Louisiana Office of Community Development is proud to have funded 6,247 FORTIFIED structures to date. Through programs and initiatives including the Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program, the Les Maisons de Bayou Lafourche housing community and the Audubon Estates development project, LOCD is helping strengthen homes, protect families and build more resilient communities.

With a $𝟲.𝟯 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗘‑𝟯 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, a vacant property is now becoming 𝟰𝟬 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀—most of them affordable for local working families. The building is also designed with strong 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 to help protect residents in future storms.

This progress is possible because of committed partners across the public and private sectors. We’re grateful to work together toward a stronger, more resilient Terrebonne Parish.

Earlier this month, the 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 celebrated a big milestone: the groundbreaking for its 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗹. After decades of outages, aging pipes, and water quality problems, this project marked the start of long-awaited improvements.

With a $𝟮.𝟴𝗠 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 and more than $4.3M from USDA Rural Development, Melville is on the path to safe, reliable drinking water again.

We were honored to attend the groundbreaking of the 𝗕.𝗪. 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴, a development that will soon provide 103 safe and affordable homes for New Orleans seniors. We supported this project with a $𝟲.𝟴𝗠 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 to ensure long-term affordability and strengthen housing resilience.

This milestone reflects how strong partnerships can help build a community where older residents can age with dignity, supported by modern amenities and improved neighborhood infrastructure.

We’re excited to celebrate the grand opening of the 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗪𝗲𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 in 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲!

Supported by a $𝟰𝟳𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 investment from the 𝗟𝗔 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, this new 𝟯,𝟱𝟬𝟬‑𝘀𝗾‑𝗳𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 offers visitors a chance to learn about Louisiana’s wetlands and why they matter—from storm protection to wildlife habitat to preserving our culture.

Located beside the 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲, the center serves as a gateway into the wetlands themselves. This project reflects strong partnerships with the Town of Jean Lafitte, Jefferson Parish, and state leaders—all working to build a more resilient future for our coastal communities and protect what makes Louisiana unique.

Last week's opening of 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 is a reminder of what thoughtful investment can achieve. We joined partners and local leaders to celebrate the new 𝟭𝟭𝟳‑𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝟱𝟱+.

With support from $𝟭𝟲.𝟭 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗗𝗕𝗚 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, this development brings safe, affordable, and resilient homes to a region that has shown incredible strength through recent challenges.

Amenities like a fitness room, library, movie space, and community center help residents stay active and connected. This is about more than a building—it’s about ensuring our seniors can age with dignity and peace of mind.

Our team recently visited 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘁 to learn firsthand how disaster recovery support is helping small businesses in New Orleans.

Owner Dylan Maisel shared that the grant he received was more than just financial assistance—it was a lifeline. The funding helped reduce the stress of a temporary shutdown, covered key expenses, and allowed him to keep paying his staff.

Because of this support, The Daily Beet was able to maintain its foundation and reopen with confidence. We’re honored to play a part in helping local businesses stay resilient and continue serving their communities.
