Black Americans in the South represented half of all new HIV diagnoses in the region in 2020, despite comprising only 19% of the Southern population. The South accounted for 38% of PrEP users in 2022 but only 21% of Black PrEP users.
S*xually transmitted diseases (STDs) are very common. In addition to HIV, the major STDs include chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis. These are bacterial infections.
