Today, Compassion Design had the opportunity to attend WAFB and Gray Media AI Marketing Workshop.

One thing became abundantly clear…

The way consumers discover businesses has fundamentally changed.

For years, businesses fought to rank on Google. Today, consumers are asking ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews before they ever click a website.

That means visibility is no longer just about SEO.

It’s about being understood by AI.

It’s about creating authentic content.

It’s about building trust before someone ever lands on your website.

One statistic that stopped me in my tracks: Google AI Overviews are contributing to significant declines in click-through rates. The old playbook alone won’t sustain businesses moving forward.

That doesn’t mean we panic.

It means we prepare.

At Compassion Design, we’ve always believed our responsibility is bigger than creating beautiful brands. Our responsibility is to stay ahead of change so our clients don’t have to navigate it alone.

The future isn’t coming.

This weekend reminded us why we do what we do.

Compassion Design had the honor of traveling alongside Imagination Leads to document the 2026 HBCU Tour. But what we captured was so much more than photos and videos.

We witnessed possibility.

From walking the campuses of Talladega College and Tuskegee University to hearing Dr. Olga Tiller share how Tuskegee is preparing the next generation through agriculture, robotics, AI, drones, and STEM education, we watched our young people see themselves in spaces that expand what’s possible.

Then we watched them step into aviation simulators, ask questions, dream bigger, and begin to envision futures that suddenly felt within reach.

But perhaps the most profound moment came when we visited the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice.

That experience shifted something in us.

Walking among the memorials honoring the lives of Black men, women, and children who were lynched—including many from our own home state of Louisiana—was overwhelming. It was impossible not to think about our ancestors. Impossible not to realize that we are living dreams they were never afforded the opportunity to see.

It reminded us that our work is bigger than branding.

It’s bigger than marketing.

Every story we help tell. Every young person we encourage. Every mission-driven organization we partner with is another opportunity to leave this world better than we found it.

That’s the kind of work we’ll always say yes to.
