Let’s next meet founding member Rachel Frederiksen! 🥳🎶
Rachel Frederiksen is an in-demand bassoonist and educator who is based in Texas. As a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, she performs across the United States and abroad. Her most recent travels took her to Puerto Rico and Mexico.
As a teacher and pedagogue, she has educated many bassoonists in university masterclasses, conferences, and lessons, and previously held positions at the University of Arkansas, University of Alabama, and the University of Texas at San Antonio as Professor of Bassoon.
Dr. Frederiksen currently teaches at the University of Incarnate Word, virtually at Southwest Baptist University, and enjoys a freelance teaching, performing, and reed-making career. More notably, she is on the Planning Committee for Puerto Rico Double Reed Day (PRDRD), a grassroots initiative bringing double reed education to the students of PR. She also serves as the bassoon Artist in Residence.
When she is not doing bassoon things, you can see Rachel hanging out with friends and her many basset hounds and her sweet calico cat. 😸🐶

Welcome to our page! Let us introduce ourselves 🤩👋
Apothix Trio made its return to the chamber music scene in 2024, following a memorable performance at the PRIZM International Chamber Music Festival. This collaboration between founding member Rachel Frederiksen (bassoon) and oboist M. Isaac Ripple inspired the ensemble’s revival.
Originally founded in 2018 by Rachel Frederiksen, Andrea Silverio (oboe), and Sohyun Moon (piano), Apothix Trio emerged from a shared passion for music and wine. 🍷 While pursuing doctoral studies at Michigan State University, the ensemble performed extensively and earned a Running Start Program grant to commission Tendril Rapture by composer Ricardo Lorenz. This work was later recorded on Lorenz’s Open Borders album, which is available on Apple Music and Spotify.
After the recording, the trio entered a hiatus due to the pandemic and the members’ evolving professional paths. Now reimagined, Apothix Trio is dedicated to exploring and sharing the rich repertoire for their unique instrumentation while introducing innovative new works to expand the contemporary chamber music landscape.
