Have you ever considered a built-in dining bench or what looks like a built-in dining bench style seating, as shown here ? Aside from selecting the darker fabric choice they have available (because hello food), this could really create a completely different feel to your kitchen or dining room!

Pros:
1. Comfortable! Are you like me? I love melting into a booth or upholstered bench/ booth-like seating while I eat and visit with whomever I'm dining with.
2. This could potentially create more space in your room. In my home, I would butt this upholstered bench next to the wall, allowing me to select a wider table than my narrow plank to fit the room better.

Cons:
1. "Excuse me, excuse me, may I have 6 of you slide out so I can make my exit?"
2. Again; food stains.
3. In some cases, it could throw off your table alignment with the hanging light above it.

Outside of the dining room or kitchen, this seating arrangement may create some interest when used in a tight space.
