Predicted heat indices haven't changed much since our last post. In the dual panel graphic maps, on the left you'll see real temps, on the right you'll find the maximum heat index for the day.

Make sure you're pushing any outdoor activity to earlier in the day or later in the evening as it cools. If you must be outside, pay attention to your surroundings and listen to your body. Today is not the day to be a hero, friends.

As always, do not leave others or pets in vehicles for any amount of time, look out for each other and stay safe, Appling County.

* WHAT...Heat index values 106 to 111 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast and northern Florida and southeast
Georgia.

* WHEN...From 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

*WHAT... Heat index values 105 to 109 expected.

*WHERE... Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Northern Ware, and Pierce Counties.

* WHEN... From 11 AM this morning to 7 PM EDT
this evening.

* IMPACTS... Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

The good news? There is no tropical cyclone activity predicted in the next seven days.

The bad news? Nobody is going to be turning off the heat, either.

Protecting yourself from the heat can be a big task. Things like hydration with electrolytes, loose clothing, frequent breaks, and sunscreen can help. Pay special attention to kids, pets and each other. It will continue to warm up through the end of the week with a predicted high of 99 degrees on Saturday with an even warmer feel with the heat index.

The 4th is on a Saturday, the rivers and lakes are full, vendors are set up at the Walmart with fireworks, the grills are hot, there will be a parade, fireworks displays are scheduled and ready- what is there not to be excited about?

At Appling EMA, we want you to enjoy this time with family and friends, however you chose to celebrate. All we ask is that you celebrate safely and responsibly. Help us keep our deputies, officers, fire, rescue, EMS/EMT and all other first responders safe this holiday weekend.

Also, don’t forget your pets, kids, veterans and old folks! It’s HOT. It’s HUMID. There will be more booms and bangs this weekend than some are comfortable with. Respect your neighbors, secure your pets, drink your water, double then triple check your backseats, don’t abuse 9-1-1.

Low pressure east of the southeast coast has no more than a 10% chance of tropical development over the next 2 days. Conditions become unfavorable for further development later this week.
