Last week was the big reveal for the Sheyla Baykal photography + art + film show OPENING TOMORROW. Steve Zehentner and I were at PARTICIPANT INC Gallery just when master printer Andrew Jarman arrived to deliver the twenty-four 16" x 20" silver-gelatin prints. We were joyously stunned. No one had ever seen Sheyla’s work printed that large and that beautifully. Andrew!!!!! It was a magical moment as was the entire experience of the Sheyla Baykal residency at Soft Network with Chelsea Spengemann and Marie Warsh and curator Marcelo Gabriel Yáñez. At last Sheyla gets her due.
