Beaumont Animal Care (BAC), the city-backed animal shelter, is offering assistance to residents in the form of a free spay and neuter program.
BAC estimates that one unspayed female dog can have up to two litters per year, with an average of 6 – 10 puppies per litter. An unspayed female cat can have 3 – 5 litters per year, resulting in as many as 24 kittens annually. BAC claims that the main reason the shelter stays at maximum capacity is because of unaltered animals.
Each Beaumont household is eligible for one voucher per year. Applications must be completed in person at the shelter, 1884 Pine St., Tuesday–Friday from 10 a.m.– 5 p.m., or Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Applicant are urged to bring a valid photo ID and utility bill with a matching name and address within Beaumont city limits.
