1) Interest Rates - Currently interest rates are at a record low. Some interest rates are lower than 3.5% for a 30 year Fixed mortgage. These rates won't stay low forever, so now it is a good opportunity to take advantage of them.

2) Construction Labor & Materials - Currently Construction and Labor and Materials are the lowest they've been in the last 4 to 5 years. Sub-contractors have dropped their prices in order to keep their crews working. As for materials, it's the simple rule of 'Supply and Demand' -- since there hasn't been alot of building going on in the past few years lumber and construction material manufacturers have a surplus in inventory and are eager to lower prices in order to be competitive in the marketplace.

3) Quality Contractors - Because the new contruction market has been so slow the last few years, most contractors that have survived this slow period are probably amongst the elite. Many of us had to re-invent ourselves in order to compete in such a competitive industry and chances are the fly by night companies have long ago closed their doors.
