Unlacquered brass hardware is a popular choice for those seeking a classic and sophisticated look in their home. Embracing the natural aging process of unlacquered brass is part of its allure.
Cleaning unlacquered brass is easy and just takes a little time and elbow grease.
We use Brasso or Barkeepers Friend most often. First a damp soft cloth or sponge with a mild soapy solution and gently wipe down the hardware. Apply the cleaning agent and let sit for a minute or two. Finally, rinse and dry the brass thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent water spots.
Remember, the beauty of unlacquered brass lies in its ability to develop a patina unique to your home. So, sit back, relax, and let your unlacquered brass hardware tell its own story as it gracefully ages with time.
Which do you prefer?
Cleaning and polishing old hardware is very time consuming. Then when you’re done, it starts to tarnish again just by being exposed to the air. Even if we wrap them in towels and seal them in bags away from the light, they will still tarnish a little. So I found a brass spray that coats them in a clear lacquer to prevent tarnish. brass spray comes in multiple sheens. We use Brilliant or Satin most of the time.
Make sure you are in a well ventilated area when you do it. And don’t leave your phone nearby! You’ll end up with overspray all over it! 😳 🤳 painter

The O’Hara lamps have been waiting for love for a few weeks now. Maybe even longer. 🫢. Our late summer got kinda busy so these kept getting the short end of the stick. But now they are ready!

Say hello to Katherine!
She's so elegant and sophisticated in her glamorous Crisp Romaine green (color by Benjamin Moore). A little understated at first, but that brass leather toggle hardware is so unique.
She used to be called the “cowboy dresser” because that was the listing title when I purchased it. Her old hardware did kinda look like a lariat, but I knew she’d have a more refined future. No dig on the cowboys though!
