In Fort Worth, Texas, the Ham Branch Habitat Mitigation Project is helping restore ecological function while supporting the Fort Worth Modified Central City Project’s flood risk management goals.

Located within Harmon Field Park, the project will transform a degraded urban stream into a healthier stream and wetland system through the restoration of 1,965 linear feet of stream channel, 7.4 acres of riparian corridor, and 0.6 acres of emergent wetland habitat.

Additional improvements, including an upstream trash collection system and improved connectivity to the Trinity River, will support water quality, fish passage, and long-term resilience.

Led by the Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with the TRWD - Tarrant Regional Water District and the City of Fort Worth, the broader Central City Project is designed to reduce flood risk for more than one million residents while enhancing community infrastructure and public spaces.

We are in the middle of Pollinator Week, an annual celebration supporting pollinator health! Initiated by the Pollinator Partnership, the celebration runs from June 22–28 to raise awareness of the critical role pollinators play and to spread the word about how we can protect them.

At RES, our team has partnered with BeeOdiversity to bring customized bee habitats to our Klamath River Project following the largest dam removal in U.S. history. These habitats are designed to attract solitary native bees and to capture pollen samples that help us identify the diversity of both bee species and the plants they feed on. Pollen samples are studied using digital photography and laboratory analysis.

Through this work, we gain scientific insights into the ecology of roughly 100-acre sites based on bee species, abundance, diversity, and food sources. The data also helps guide specific improvement measures for both pollinators and the surrounding ecosystem.

We are excited to work with our friends at BeeOdiversity, a firm that has earned numerous awards for creating cutting-edge technology and biodiversity programs that "combine the genius of nature with advanced data analytics."

As the Klamath River ecosystem continues to recover, these tiny pollinators are helping us better understand the landscape's next chapter. Explore the Klamath story: https://hubs.li/Q04ms3Tx0
