ACTION ALERT: Oregon NDs need your help! (and about 30 seconds of your time)

The 2023 Oregon legislative session has begun and the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OANP) is once again working hard to get the ND Pay Parity bill passed and require fair compensation for NDs. Equitable reimbursement from insurers is vital to the sustainability of ND businesses and to ensure you (our patients) have access to the provider of your choice. Currently NDs are paid half the rate of other providers by many health insurance companies for the same type of visit.

We still have time in the 2023 legislative session to pass our Pay Parity Bill. The Bill awaits the Ways and Means committee to move HB2555 to the Human Services sub-committee. We need your help - Please let the committee chairs and Leadership know they need to make this happen today otherwise, a few days' time, this bill will once again be silenced.

The legislators we are reaching out to represent parts of Portland, Beaverton, Bend, Bethany, Lake Oswego, Tualatin, Tigard, West Eugene, and Prineville. If you live in one of these cities, please continue and see if your address is in one of these districts.

A important part of any healthy diet includes a combination of fruits and vegetables. Anyone worried about consuming potentially harmful pesticides should know that a large number are found on many fruits and vegetables, even after they are washed, peeled or scrubbed, which the USDA does before testing.
More than 70 percent of non-organic fresh produce sold in the U.S. contains residues of potentially harmful pesticides. Check out this visual for help determining which items to buy organic and which ones are ok to buy non-organic.

Mackenzie is native to a small town in upstate New York and moved to Bend with her husband, dog, and cat to pursue their love of the great outdoors. She is a nationally certified Family Nurse Practitioner and began her career as a nurse almost a decade ago, fascinated by the anatomy, physiology, and health of the human body. She is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton in New York State and has educational and professional backgrounds in nursing, acute care, and family/preventative medicine.

Although she was very passionate about her time as a nurse in the intensive care unit, she desired a path to help prevent disease and illness. Mackenzie decided to further her studies and become a nurse practitioner specializing in family medicine and primary care. During her time spent as a primary care provider, she realized the benefits and limitations Western medicine alone can provide. Knowing there was more she could provide her patients, she began pursuing functional medicine training.

Mackenzie values the relationship between herself and her patients and takes the time to listen and discuss health goals and priorities. She understands healthcare needs to be individualized to allow a person to achieve optimal health.

Mackenzie’s specialties include primary care, chronic and complex medical conditions, and preventative healthcare for women. She is currently working toward her certification in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine. Mackenzie is dedicated to being a healthcare provider who is genuine, compassionate, and takes the time to listen to her patient’s concerns.

Outside of her career she loves spending time with her family, practicing yoga, listening to 90s Hip Hop music while cooking, being in nature, hiking and jogging.
