Pretty much most of the “extra” things that we put into every one of our buildings are not visible. Until…. You get a run of freezing, thawing and freezing temps.

Which house would you want to live in? The one on the Right or left?

Even though the house on the left hits a min. of 15% more efficient than code mark, it still falls short of what I would consider (not to mention what would happen if the house on the left was ONLY built to code!)

What you can not see but is in the house on the right is… !!
-R-20 under a concrete slab
-R-21 wall cavity insulation WITH a moisture storing and low carbon type of insulation.
-R-10 continuous insulation on the exterior of the walls
-A conditioned attic space
-R-38 in the roof cavities
-R-20 continuous insulation on the exterior of the roof framing. A vented cavity just under the roof shingles
-Air tightness of about 1ACH50 (going by memory)
