A huge congratulations to my good friend, Battalion Chief Matt Lemons Matt Lemons , on your well-deserved promotion with the Summit Fire Department!

This promotion is a reflection of your hard work, dedication, and commitment to the profession. You’ve earned it, and I couldn’t be happier for you.

It was also great catching up with our National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer instructor, retired Chief of Department Chris Cotter. Chief Cotter is one of the most respected instructors in the EFO Program and an outstanding leader whose mentorship has positively impacted countless fire service professionals.

Congratulations to all of those promoted in Summit, I look forward to working with all of you. See you at the big one Chief Lemons!

They’re on the way!

New Division Command Training postcards are being mailed to fire departments across New Jersey.

Keep an eye on your department’s mailbox, you might be seeing one soon.

If your department is looking to strengthen command, thermal imaging, leadership, instructor development, or tactical decision-making, we’d be honored to bring our programs to you.

Attention New Jersey Firefighters:

Are you on the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Certification Portal?

Beginning September 1, 2026, the NJ Division of Fire Safety will no longer accept paper applications, emailed forms, mailed documents, or other manual submissions for licenses and certifications. Everything will be handled through the DCA Certification & Registration Portal linked to your myNJ account.

If you haven’t set up your account yet, now is the time. Review the instructions in the attached documents and get yourself registered before the deadline.

Whether you’re applying for a certification, renewing a license, tracking CEUs, or downloading course completion certificates, your myNJ account will be your one-stop portal.

Stay proactive. Stay engaged. Stay committed… and stay current.

And if you want to stay current on training, leadership, incident command, and the latest developments affecting the fire service, subscribe to The Tactical Brief at www.divisioncommandtraining.com.

Division Command Training recently had the opportunity to visit the Deptford Fire Department to present The Missing Tactical Layer: Why Firegrounds Break Down.

Thank you to everyone who attended from Deptford and the surrounding departments. It was a great evening of discussion, thoughtful questions, and shared perspectives on developing effective division supervisors for today’s increasingly complex firegrounds.

A special thank you to Captain Constantine Sypsomos Constantine Sypsomos, Training Captain for the Deptford Fire Department, for coordinating the program. Captain Sypsomos continues to demonstrate proactive leadership by investing in the professional development of both his members and neighboring departments. That commitment strengthens the fire service and the communities we serve.

Thank you again for the invitation. I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Proactive. Engaged. Committed.

Every business reaches a point where you have to decide whether to stay comfortable or invest in your future.

Last week, I made one of those investments.

This truck isn’t about having something new, it’s about giving Division Command Training the ability to bring training props like the Palmer dollhouse, thermal imaging equipment, and other needs directly to departments throughout New Jersey and beyond.

My goal has always been simple: make high-quality, realistic training as accessible as possible.

There’s still a long road ahead, and like most small businesses, every step forward comes with risk. But I believe in what we’re building and in the firefighters who continue to trust us with their training.

Looking forward to putting a lot of miles on this truck one department at a time.
