A lot of people assume pelvic floor symptoms in their 40s are just part of getting older. They're not something you have to accept, but they do have a different cause than the same symptoms in your 20s or 30s.

Here's what changes:
→ Estrogen begins to decline in perimenopause, which affects the elasticity and strength of pelvic floor tissues

→ Muscle mass naturally decreases with age including in the pelvic floor

→ Connective tissue becomes less pliable, which can affect support and sensation

→ Bladder capacity and urgency signals can shift
The result: leaking, urgency, pelvic pressure, dryness, or pain with intimacy that wasn't there before.

The good news: these changes are treatable. Pelvic floor PT directly addresses the muscular and movement factors and works alongside other treatments like local hormone therapy if your provider recommends it.

Your 40s can feel strong. Save this if it resonates, and share it with someone who needs to know this isn't just "part of aging." 💛

Summer often means ramping up activity, and that's great. But if you've been dealing with pelvic floor symptoms like leaking, pressure, or pain, jumping back into high-impact movement without support can make things worse.

Here's what to keep in mind:
→ High-impact activities (running, jumping, HIIT) put significant demand on the pelvic floor. If it's already struggling, more load = more symptoms.

→ Cycling can create pelvic pressure and nerve sensitivity. Saddle position, posture, and hip imbalance all matter.

→ Swimming is lower impact but core and breath mechanics still play a role.

You don't have to avoid the things you love. You just need a pelvic floor that can keep up with them. That's what we help with.
