Library News: Children’s Fairyland in Oakland was graced by Library and Literacy Hero Mychal Threets! Mychal is an extremely positive believer that everyone can find more joy at the library. Do you agree??

During his visit to Oakland earlier this year, Mychal Threets (), California Librarian and literacy advocate, took a trip down memory lane at Fairyland. He spent a magical afternoon with our Fairyland Librarian, Angela Moffett, delighting in his love of reading and storytelling. 📖✨

Mychal, known for sharing adorable children's tales online, brings joy and affirmations to hearts nationwide. Mychal is a positive role model and his actions speak volumes: he won the 2024 I Love My Librarian Award, hosted the program that honored diversity within his local library, is now PBS' resident librarian, and continues to inspire minds as an incredible social media storyteller!

His belief that "library kids will save the world" is infectious, inspiring us all to embrace literacy and kindness. As we celebrate Children's Book Week, May 6 through May 12, let's recognize Mychal's unwavering dedication to spreading the love of reading.

I’m curious if anyone out there uses Translanguaging regularly? After learning about it and getting coached at UC Berkeley, I really saw it as the ideal way to teach in CA especially. In this state we have so many students with expansive linguistic backgrounds that are asked to only use English in schools, when Translanguaging teaches the entire class vocabulary in multiple languages.
