Standard handheld sparklers are extremely hot. They are more than 1,200°F—that’s about 5 times hotter than the boiling point of water!

That’s not enough to burn some metals, so treat them like the real fire hazards they are. Hold them at arm’s length, wear shoes to protect your feet from dropped sparks, and dunk used sticks in a bucket of water.
