Madrone Terrace is starting construction! The 100% affordable housing community will bring 79 rental apartments above a day care and Hayward Area Recreation and Park District community center to Ashland. This development continues our deep investment in the Eden Area of unincorporated Alameda County.

Just a block from Madrone Terrace is Ashland Place, an RCD community completed in 2015 that has commercial space dedicated to providing opportunities for local food businesses. Building on our investment at Ashland Place, our Community Development team became deeply involved in the Eden Area and continues to lead initiatives focused on community health, anti-eviction education, rental aid, and food and other basic needs assistance.

Madrone Terrace is a continuation of RCD's investment and a testament to our commitment to the area. This transformative development wouldn't be possible without the support from our partners. Thank you to California Department of Housing & Community Development, Alameda County Housing & Community Development Department, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco and JPMorgan Chase & Co.!

We’re celebrating the groundbreaking of Rick Judd Commons in Concord! As the first new affordable development in Concord in over 20 years, Rick Judd Commons will provide 62 new affordable homes to the city for low-income and working families, including 13 apartments set aside for households transitioning out of homelessness. We can’t wait to welcome families into their new rental homes in 2024.

Thank you to our partners who made this development possible. We couldn’t have done it without Wells Fargo, California Department of Housing & Community Development, City of Concord, California, and Contra Costa County. Many thanks to our general contractor, J. H. Fitzmaurice and our architect Lowney Architecture.

Affordable Homes Strengthen Communities

You probably know first hand that there is an unprecedented need for more affordable housing. You see the increase in the numbers of people who are living on the streets or in their cars. You may know people who couch surf. You may teach in a classroom where children are tired and hungry and have no place to study after school. Perhaps you know seniors who worry about their meals at the end of the month when money is tight.

RCD creates and preserves homes for low-income families and individuals. This provides the stability of a safe and affordable apartment. And from there, people can address other issues - education, health, employment, transportation, for example. And they can participate in their community to make it a better place.

RCD housing includes onsite resident services and property management. We include supportive housing for people who have special needs. Our developments are built green for the health of our residents and to contribute to a sustainable environment. We are committed to building stronger places and stronger lives.
