Most etching tutorials walk you through clean lines and predictable results. Bette Barnett throws that out the window.
This two-day workshop is built around non-traditional etching resists like oil paint, rubber cement, dry transfers, hand-cut stencils, duct tape, anything that sticks. You'll layer patterns, intentionally over-etch, and discover effects that no commercial design template could give you. The results are loose, original, and unmistakably yours.
You'll work with steel throughout the class, learning how to clean, cut, and shape it, then move into the electro-etching process itself, including how to set up and run an etching station with a rectifier. The class wraps up with patinas and sealers that bring out the dimension in your etched surfaces.
Beginners welcome. No torch skills required, and steel experience isn't necessary. If you've ever wanted to make something that looks like nothing else on your bench, this is it.
