Agricultural disease is a common and growing issue straining the manner in which food is produced. Current attempts with organic food production, while laudable, are not sustainable and thus not fully followed by those with an organic certification.
The wide use of pesticides and fungicides has resulted in increased resistance, reduced efficacy, and a decline in rich soil micro biome. Current research points to the benefits of small-scale farming with local food distribution. However, in light of these issues, agricultural enterprises face an insurmountable challenge with limited profitability.
Case and point, the wine industry continues to face diseases such as Powdery Milldew without effective organically approved methods of treatment. Recent innovation within bacteriophage, a natural alternative to antibiotics for human and animal health, offers a promising solution to agriculture and the production of natural foods.
This health concern is where Satya Project and Chateau La Combelle wish to make a meaningful change. Click below for more information on Powdery Mildew, which we will be addressing at the Chateau La Combelle winery. The current chemical solutions are also outlined below. We aim to be amongst the first to improve the approach within natural disease prevention and management. And all the while, creating beautifully delicious natural wines!
