The term "round timber" refers to the relatively intact trunk of tree from which only the branches and bark have been removed. Round timbers are used as telegraph poles and in the construction of docks and other structures.

Maple wood can be either hard or soft in quality. Hard maple, in fact, is so hard that it can be quite challenging to work with. Soft maple, on the other hand, is more amenable to shaping and a better wood for most projects. Another benefit of maple lumber is that it is less expensive than most other types of wood.
