Beverly Fire Department
A History of Service
E5 assisted the Danvers Fire Department at their working fire on Cherry Hill Dr.
At 441 this morning Beverly Fire responded to a reported basement fire at 18 Sturtevant St. On arrival crews found heavy smoke coming from the home. All residents made it out of the home safely with one treated at Beverly Hospital for burns from attempting to extinguished the fire.
Crews found the fire in the basement but due to balloon frame construction of the early 1900's home fire had already traveled through wall and floor voids to upper levels. 2nd and eventually 3rd alarms were called bringing several mutual aid companies to the scene to assist. The fire was under control around 7am with crews remaining on scene overhauling and checking for hit spots until around 10am.
This was Beverly's second multiple alarm fire in eight days after last Sunday's two alarm fire on Hale Park Ave.
Assistance was provided on scene by Salem, Wenham, Hamilton, Middleton, Manchester, Marblehead, Topsfield and Rehad 5.
Swampscott, Lynnfield and Peabody covered Beverly stations during the incident.
