Highland Animal Hospital has been in business since 1961 and Dr. Scott Burt has been in practice since 1983.
The 4th of July is a blast for us, but it can be downright terrifying for our furry family members. 🎆🐾 The loud booms and bright flashes can trigger major anxiety in pets.
Here are a few things you can do to help them feel safe:
Create a safe haven: Set up a cozy, quiet inner room or crate with their favorite blankets and toys. 🛋️
Mask the noise: Turn on a TV, static fan, or white noise machine to help drown out the fireworks. 📺
Keep them secure: Ensure all windows and doors are locked, and double-check that their microchips and ID tags are up to date just in case. 🏷️
Stay calm: Pets feed off our energy. Keep your routine as normal as possible!

We have loved having some incredible student talent in our clinic! Join us in celebrating our latest extern Dr.Boss, who just wrapped up two weeks with us. Here is a look at her journey:
❤️ The "Why" Behind the Dream
"Losing a childhood dog to Parvovirus inspired me to pursue veterinary medicine. My family thought there wasn't much that could be done, so we did our best at home, but it wasn't enough. That loss fueled my mission: not only to save animals, but to educate communities on the life-saving care veterinarians and families can achieve together." 💪✨

* **School:** 4th-year student at **Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine**! 🐯💜
* **Pet:** Zeppelin, a 7-year-old Aussie, Boxer, and Rottweiler mix (named after Led Zeppelin! 🎸).

"The coolest thing I learned was the auto-ligation technique for cat neuters! 🐱 What surprised me most was how efficient the Highland team is. Their fantastic staff-to-doctor ratio allows the veterinarians to help so many more animals.
I absolutely loved the hands-on surgical experience and digging into complex medicine cases to build tailored treatment plans. It was incredibly rewarding!" 💉🏥
