Yesterday was the Leadership MT annual conference and our ROC (Resource Outreach Coordinator) Kody Christensen spoke on a panel about public safety and crime in Billings along with Billings Police Department’s Chief St. John, Dan Brooks from Billings Chamber of Commerce , Representative Denise Baum - Montana House District 47 Representative, Georgia Cady Director of Tumbleweed of Billings, and Mayor Cole with City of Billings Government.

Kody was asked to share more about our downtown in action priorities and initiatives to help everyone feel safe. Our downtown numbers show positive outcomes from the efforts of the HOT (Homeless Outreach Team), MAAP (Motivated Addiction Alternative Program) and safety cooperative program with BPD . Downtown and Billings are currently taking steps that many other communities are wanting to implement. Both our police department and local government are working with service providers, including substance use and mental health providers, to address the issue and also looking at preventative measures (not just reactive tactics). All the collaboration has been beneficial for our downtown community.
