thanks to all the students, alums, faculty, administrators, and community members who joined us tonight! this evening, we presented an adapted version of the Examen geared toward allyship. we encourage you to meditate on these ideas and how you engage with privilege— you own and others’— in day-to-day life and how we can translate our prayers into action.

as always, you can fill out the form in our linktree (in bio) to be added to our google classroom and email list and learn more about how you can do your part.

Instagram post from 8/28/21:

as we prepare to go back to school, we must also continue the work of unlearning our biases and reflecting on our own identities and privilege(s). one way to do so is to consider microaggressions and how we have casually or unthinkingly inflicted violence on those around us. let us pray and meditate on our unconscious harm and take action against the microaggression perpetuated by ourselves and by others.

you’ve probably heard the word “intersectionality” before but what does the word mean? where (or more so, who) does it come from? how do i work toward justice intersectionally? you can find some answers in this post and much more in the resources listed (and linked in our instagram bio!)

how can we begin to be allies in spaces we hold power? we all have different identities—our s*x, gender, race, disability status, s*xuality, income, religion—some of which fall into dominant groups (like male presenting, cisgender, white, Christian, upper class) and others which fall into oppressed groups (female presenting, trans, BIPOC, lower/middle class, non-Christian).

being an ally is a constant process of unlearning, learning, AND relearning; listening, showing up, and being accountable to ourselves and others.

how do you try to be a consistent ally? what steps do you plan to take? how have you failed? and how did you work to mend the harm you did?
