☀️ Enjoy these last few cooler mornings — heat and humidity will start building into Alabama's weather forecat this weekend..

It's cool now, but tomorrow morning (Friday) will be the coolest for a while. Upper 40s to lower 50s early tomorrow, but that changes fast.

A mostly sunny Thursday pushes us into the mid-to-upper 70s this afternoon with a light breeze. Soak it in.

Friday takes us back to the 80s (still dry) after the cool start. That's it. After Friday, the door to early summer swings wide open.

🌡️ Your 7-day at a glance:
Thursday: 76° — Sunny & mild, chilly start
Friday: 82° — Chilly morning, warm afternoon
Saturday: 86° — Partly sunny, noticeably warmer
Sunday: 87° — Hot & more humid
Monday: 89° — Hot & humid (10% rain chance)
Tuesday: 90° — Isolated storms possible (20%)
Wednesday: 88° — Scattered storms possible (40%)

A strong high parked off the East Coast next week puts Alabama on the Gulf side of the flow — that means tropical moisture pumping northward, soaring humidity, and heat indices that could feel well above the actual temperature.

🌧️ Meanwhile, the drought clock is ticking. Birmingham is already pushing toward being 2" on rainfall behind for May and 3 inches short for the year. If we stay dry through midweek as expected, the annual deficit grows to roughly 4.3 inches — about an entire month of missing rainfall heading into summer. Dry soil will also let temps run 10-15° hotter than we've seen so far this month.
There's a better rain chance by next Wednesday, but drought relief? Not yet.

This is one of those days I look forward to all year, and it was even better with my own mini-me helper! We did experiments with dry ice, water, and a lot of other things to learn about Alabama weather, storms and the forecast at Oak Mountain Intermediate School today!

Tag a parent or friend if you spot their Fourth Grader!

I had the best assistant this morning for Science Career Day at Oak Mountain Intermediate School! We had over 300 4th graders in the cafeteria for some weather fun using dry ice, water and other cool stuff!
