A huge THANK YOU to Aldridge Gardens for another incredible summer camp season!

Both of my kids attended camp this summer. One participated in STEAM camp and the other in art camp. They had an absolute blast. They came home excited each day, eager to share what they learned, created, and experienced. The end of the week art show was fabulous!

Aldridge Gardens is a City of Hoover treasure. Beyond its beautiful scenery, it provides opportunities for our children to learn, explore, create, and make lasting memories.

Thank you to the staff, volunteers, and instructors who make these programs possible year after year. Also, a huge shoutout to my mom, Kathy Lovell, for helping me get them to and from camp each day.

“City officials and others met with EBSCO last week to discuss coming up with a solution that could work best for both the city, for EBSCO and the people,” Lovell said. “Currently in that corridor, over 300 apartments exist. Hoover city councilor provides update on Tattersall Park development CBS 42 has new information on the proposed development project at Tattersall Park in Hoover.

"We have already spent over $7 million in stormwater infrastructure updates, $5 million in parks. Tattersall is no different. We are listening to the residents. We want to come up with a solution with EBSCO that's going to be a best fit for this community and be smart development," Lovell said.

TATTERSALL PARK UPDATE

Last week, city officials, myself, and others met with EBSCO Industries to discuss the future of Tattersall Park. There are 30+ undeveloped acres remaining.

To my knowledge, this is the first time the City has initiated a meeting with EBSCO regarding the property. Previous discussions have historically been prompted by EBSCO. This administration believes in taking a proactive approach to important community issues, and I believe that was demonstrated by our willingness to reach out and start the conversation.

I went into the meeting hopeful.

I brought with me the feedback many of you have shared over the years, both before and after I was elected. I compiled survey results, community comments, and ideas that reflected what I consistently hear from residents. I was prepared to discuss concepts such as meaningful green space, locally focused shops, a quality restaurant, a boutique hotel, an East Hoover library branch, and even a small outdoor amphitheater. These are the kinds of amenities residents have repeatedly told me they would like to see if development were ever to occur.

I will also admit that I believed a Birmingham-based company with deep roots in our region would have an interest in hearing how its development decisions could impact the surrounding community. I thought there would be value placed on the clear and consistent feedback provided by the people who live here.

I was mistaken.

During the meeting, it became clear that EBSCO’s position has not changed. We were told there is no interest in pursuing a development plan that does not include multifamily residential components.

The options presented were straightforward: either continue holding the property until future leadership is willing to approve such a plan, or continue selling portions of the property over time as opportunities arise.

I believe you deserve an honest update.

Smart growth and responsible development were two of the primary reasons I decided to run for public office in the first place. While the conversation did not produce the outcome I had hoped for, it did provide clarity. The community has spoken clearly about its vision for this property. Unfortunately, that vision does not appear to be shared by the property’s ownership.

I remain committed to advocating for the priorities you have consistently shared with me and will continue to do so.

Whether the news is encouraging or disappointing, I believe transparency is essential, and I will always do my best to share what I know with the people I serve.
