Dr. Kliger and Lori Blumenstein-Bott, LMSW are excited to bring back the Power Your Heart Mindfulness Group to Psychassets. This group is a dedicated practice to learn and to understand better who you are from the inside out and, in turn, how you can operate most effectively in the world with others. We have learned that this practice lies at the heart of being fully human. By engaging in mindful-living we gain insight and begin to act with greater emotional balance and a wiser mind. We also realize strength-based healing from our painful past and become more attuned to our own transformational powers. ⭐

JUNETEENTH - The history and celebration of liberation.
Happy Juneteenth! Swipe ➡️to read about the significance of Juneteenth and how you can celebrate as well as take action. While we take the day to celebrate the liberation of enslaved people in America, we must also acknowledge the work and action that was taken in the past, while being reflective of where we are today.

Today's : Progressive Relaxation.
Throughout our days we can carry our thoughts, worries, and feelings in our bodies. Tensing our shoulders, clenching our jaws, and tightness in our necks are all indicators that we have an opportunity to be mindful and to take care of ourselves. Begin with 3 deep breaths, each one bringing your attention and awareness to your senses, starting at your feet scan your body. What sensations do you feel? Where do you carry discomfort or stress or anxiety? Try your best to gently release the tension with every exhale.

My perspective of Ramadan, Eid, and Mindfulness By Syed Murtaza, Life Mentor at PsychAssets
"Writing about the self-study model, mindfulness, social advocacy, identity, and authenticity, I feel it's important to share my own journey of self-study. I want to recognize the difficulty many of us face being our authentic-self and write this in hopes that we move closer to loving ourselves more. Every year, Ramadan brings about a mixed bag of emotions for me; excitement for the traditions, customs, and celebrations. Anxiety for admitting I haven't been fasting or praying. Mainly feeling inadequate, feeling that I can't justify celebrating, that I'm not Muslim enough to be considered Muslim."
"I've had my own identity erased many times because of what I do or don't believe, but I also recognize the harm I may have caused for judging my Muslim brothers and sisters. I feel that we carry a litmus test, deciding who is religious enough to be Muslim in our eyes. My reflections have led me to the realization that I cannot gatekeep an identity from someone or shame them out of their identity for not believing what I believe."
"My responsibility is to foster and encourage reflection, and to facilitate self-acceptance. As I've gotten the opportunity to hear about the experiences of others and the pride they carry with their identities, I've been able to recognize that I am free to be who I am and be proud."
" I challenge us all take the time to reflect on impacts and contributions we have played in each others lives, striving to elevate every individual to the best they can be. I wish everyone Eid Mubarak."

Today's Mindful Moment: Cooling Off 🙏😅✍️
We all go through a range of emotions on a daily basis. Being agitated can be one that we tend to dwell on more than others. When you find yourself feeling frustrated or agitated, try this exercise to ease your mind. First, find a quiet and comfortable space. Once you have taken a moment to position yourself, begin with some deep breaths and transition to natural breathing. Notice your body relax, from your jaw to your belly. Take a moment to thank yourself for participating in your own well-being. Now visualize the individual that you're experiencing friction with, you may not see eye to eye but you can wish them peace and joy, one human to another. Notice your breathing again, are you feeling more or less relaxed? Are you feeling agitated or more at peace?
