We at New Voices Opera have been very busy working on John William Griffith II's opera, The Jungle. We thought we would share some behind the scenes photos with you all. Here are some pictures of our orchestra recording The Jungle. At NVO, we are very thankful to be able to make music safely during these times.

Finally, the last composer for The X we are introducing is Cicada Dennis!
-
Here is a little bit about him:
My music and art are strongly influenced by my deep awareness of the potential for the extinction of humankind or even the entire planetary ecosystem. In my compositions, these concerns and my hopes for a better future are often involved in a work’s genesis and development.
Growing up as I did in the 1960's and 70's, and experiencing laser light shows in various venues, I became very interested in the pairing of visuals with music. I studied computer graphics, animation, video, and music composition. I have studied dance and collaborated with choreographers. I am also very interested the ways in which art and life mutually influence one another.
-
Working with choreographers brings together many of these interests. A good example is my soundscape composition created for choreographer Merián Soto’s Postcards From the Woods In this piece I wove together audio recordings of nature, my own and some from the videos used in the performance. The five soundscapes created for Soto’s SoMoS are another example.
-
My most recent large scale composition is a participatory musical for which I wrote the libretto and music. How We Saved the World is situated in a future time and begins with the premise that the world has been “saved.” Human beings have found a way to live in peace and harmony with one another and with the ecology of our planet Earth. We, the participants in the performance are sharing among ourselves the story of how human culture changed from the destructive, unsustainable practices and consciousness of the past. It has always been a hope of mine that through the music that I write and create I can help humans find within themselves the insight and motivation to create a more peaceful and ecologically sustainable world.
