Pistol Enterprises

It’s 5am, and I’m awake. Usually at this time I can hear the restlessness and heavy breathing going on, then the sound of a big shake and then a big plop of a massive head right on my chest. And then a big kiss …. from my Benny, the Berner. He wants to eat and go outside, but mostly he wants to say “good morning, thanks for being my friend”. He will hug me until I let go, he would never be the first to let go! But the last two mornings I haven’t been awakened to this wonderful routine because Benny passed over the Rainbow Bridge. At just a little over 5 years old he unexpectedly and rapidly got very sick and passed away. (Despite 6 different Veterinarians trying to help him). He was the sweetest, caring, and fun loving dog I’ve had. He was one of us, a Pistol, unforgivingly omnipresent, relentless, and partaking in everything we did. When I said my good bye, I told him “you are a great Dog, and I loved every minute we were together!” It’s unthinkable that just 3 weeks apart we lost our 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs, Reggie and now Benny Boo. The grief is excruciating. I’m wishing this morning I could wake up to one of those long lasting hugs. I would tell Benny “Thank YOU” for being my friend.
