SenNet, a research consortium, funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH) was created in 2021 to identify and catalog senescent cells- cells that stop dividing but remain active in the body. In healthy tissue, these cells support wound healing and prevent the growth of tumors. Over time, these senescent cells accumulate in the body and release harmful signals that contribute to chronic disease and other age-related conditions. Researchers in this consortium introduced the concept of “senotypes,” a new classification system that groups senescent cells based on the location in the body. Katy Borner and Yash Jain presented talks at the annual conference in DC.
