Meet Rob Smith 🎉

Robert (Rob) Smith begins his pastoral internship at Transfiguration Lutheran Church on August 2, returning to the vocation that first shaped his life. After serving as an ELCA pastor in rural and urban congregations from 1989–1995 in Upstate New York, he spent nearly three decades in Medicare and Medicaid health insurance leadership, working to expand equity and access for vulnerable communities. Recently approved for reinstatement by the Minneapolis Area Synod, Rob is completing his required internship at Transfiguration before seeking a permanent call. He and his husband, Jay—originally from New Ulm—make their home in Apple Valley. Rob is the father of three sons and grandfather of seven; his youngest son serves as an ELCA pastor in Buffalo, NY.

He is grateful to join Transfiguration’s community of faith and looks forward to walking with the congregation in ministry.
