SECOND UPDATE: We had a very seasoned rescuer check out the situation. The lake is overflowing into the drain fast because of all the rain. The rescuer found where the tunnel drains out and did not see any ducklings. She could not get near the drain even in her kayak due to fast moving water. We will ask the caller to assess the situation again once the waterflow subsides. Thank you to everyone who jumped in to help here!

UPDATE: Mom is still around but water is pouring into the drain from all the rain. Caller reports she can no longer hear the babies but is working on finding where the tunnel drains out to.
😢🦆URGENT🦆😢: Is there anyone in KS who can help save ducklings in Olathe in the morning (Thursday 7/9/26)?
Here is the info: Mother duck who is frantic as her babies have gone into an overflow cement structure in a pond. 119th and Lone Elm. In Grayson Place complex. Entering off of Tallgrass will take you to the pond. (Pic for attention)

This one is just for fun. Dale’s first “release”…moving smaller babies to the bigger run now that the 10 older babies have been released. Great work Dale! 😃

Happy Fourth of July from Leia, Melon and the gang. We are so grateful for SO many freedoms we have in the US. The rumor around the rescue is that all the wild intakes are absolutely grateful for our freedom to save, rehab and release them, with legal permits of course! We will have an Independence Day release tomorrow! It would have been so special to us to have given our next group of babies their freedom on Independence Day, however, the babies would have felt differently with all of the fireworks!!! See you all for the release tomorrow at 10:00am!!! 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🇺🇸

We had the privilege of ending this weekend with another rescue. This little girl had “spider string” wrapped around both legs and they were bound together. Every time she took a step she became bound tighter. When we got to her she could no longer walk. We were able to remove the line. The area was not open but we treated her anyway just in case there was a tiny wound we could not see. The string was TIGHT so she was limping a little after removal. We got an update that her flock returned a couple hours later and she is off doing goose things with them!! Thank you Lisa Fiorino for alerting us to this sweet girl and for helping with the rescue! Lisa is an amazing steward of our wildlife and frequently calls us to help them. (We gave Lisa a net and let her get this one. I think it’s safe to say she is part of the team now. 🥰)

MARLEY UPDATE: We are learning her, and she is learning us. She requires extra attention but she’s worth it. We feel very blessed she came to live with us!!! 🦆💕😎

My favorite days off are the ones that end with a rescue. This little girl had fishing line wrapped from her leg all the way up her body, all around her wings and around her neck TIGHT. It was wrapped around her neck about 9 times. She could not fully extend her neck to drink or her wings to fly. She was the BEST patient. As soon as we freed her from the string impairing her neck she just sat there and let us finish working. I’m sure it was uncomfortable for her and stressed her out. Once she was free she realized we were helping. The leg with the line was a little swollen but the skin had not been penetrated. She has a chance to make a full recovery, but might always have a little limp. Still, she can walk/run/fly/swim…and now she can eat and drink. Thank you Chloe Radford for alerting us to this sweet girl. It takes a village to save these amazing birds!!!

💕🦆ANNOUNCEMENT🦆💕
We have placed fishing line (monofilament) collectors at Lake Jacomo, near the kayak area-across from the campground and at the sailboat marina. (Thank you Jackson County Parks and Rec for allowing us to place them). We have also been working with Independence Parks and Rec and will be placing 4 at Waterfall Park. As soon as we have more we will also be placing some at Blue Springs Lake. THIS WAS A TEAM EFFORT! Thank you Randy and Gail Price for making some of these and for painting them (they are so pretty!). Thank you Kenny Price for helping us construct some. Thank you Bryan Clark for helping install today (especially for pounding stakes into the ground!), and for volunteering to clean/maintain the ones at Jacomo and Blue Springs lakes. Thank you Vivian Shaner for offering to maintain the ones at Waterfall Park. Thank you Missouri Stream Teams for helping us with the contracts needed to place these, and for providing the stickers!!!
PLEASE SHARE THIS POST SO EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THESE ARE AND PUTS FISHING LINE IN THEM IF THEY SEE THEM!!! 🎣
