A mother of my client asked me, after reflex asseament ...Am I too late? Is it too bad?

Her child is four. Bright, busy, full of life.

I want to answer her here, because she is not the only mother holding this question.

Four is not late. The nervous system at this age is still forming. Myelination — the protective coating that lets signals travel cleanly through the nerves — is actively building in these years.

And the assessment. A reflex that is not yet integrated is not a reflex that is wrong. It is a reflex that has not yet finished its work. The blueprint is there. The pattern is there. What is missing is the automaticity — the ease that comes when the body no longer has to think about what it should already know.

That is what we are building. Not a repair. A completion.

When the reflex is still working at a conscious level, your child spends energy holding themselves upright, holding themselves together, holding themselves through the day. When the reflex integrates, that energy returns to them. For learning. For play. For being a child.

You are not late. Your child is not behind. You are right on time.

Primary reflex integration is misunderstood. A reflex that vanishes was never integrated. It was suppressed.

Integration is the maturation of a reflex from a survival response into a neurophysiological building block for higher motor, cognitive, and emotional function. The reflex still exists. It no longer dominates.

The biological mechanism is myelination — a lipid-rich sheath around the axon that lets neural signals travel cleanly and with precision. Without it, the signal scatters. With it, the signal arrives where it is needed.

When integration happens, automaticity is established. The nervous system stops spending energy on the reflex and frees it for learning, attention, and regulation. The child can sit without the body pulling at them. The child can meet a stranger's eyes without the autonomic system flooding.

Traditional methods inhibit. MNRI® repatterns.💙 The circuit returns to its natural mature state.

Today I honor every person who walks alongside children on the autism spectrum.

The ones who understand their journey.
Who communicate without words.
Who give them space — and teach them boundaries too.

I honor the hands that help a body feel safe.
The practice of teaching a child to self-regulate.
The way these children feel everything differently — and the adults who meet them there.

I honor the empathy.
The ability to hold space.
The gift of reading a child's energy and following it.
The willingness to just sit beside them — because sometimes presence is enough.

I honor the ones who stay when the energy in the room turns upside down.
Who guide gently back to safety.
Who see these children as the beautiful souls they are.

I honor this work.
I honor everyone walking this path.
