Look Up! A Rare Super Blue Moon Shines Tomorrow — the Last ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

Mark your calendars for a date with the moon: Tomorrow, August 30th, a rare super blue moon will illuminate the night sky. And if you miss it, you’ll have to wait quite a while to catch the next one.

You’ve likely heard the idiom “once in a blue moon” referring to something rare or unlikely — well, super blue moons are even less frequent. This month’s spectacle is the last chance to see one until 2037, which will have super blue moons in both January and March.

Blue moons are not actually blue; the term signifies a second full moon within a single month (August’s first full moon was the Sturgeon Moon on the 1st). As for super moons, they’re generally bigger and about 16% brighter than your average moon, according to EarthSky.org.
