Motor Conductor and Short-Circuit Ground-Fault Protection Sizing. Conductors are sized at 125% of Motor FLC (Article Table), based on 75C column of Table 310.16 (all terminals are rated 75C), see NEC 110.14(C)(1)(a)(3) and 430.22(A) [22A x 125% = 28A]. Breaker used for short-circuit ground-fault protection sized to 250% of motor FLC, see NEC 430.52(C)(1)(a) [22A x 250% = 55A]. The limitation of 30A protection for 10 AWG does not apply to motor branch circuits, see NEC 240.4(D) and 240.4(G). Don't listen to a dinosaur! Terminals must be torqued to the manufacturer's instructions [NEC 110.3(B)] using the proper tool [NEC 110.14(D)]. Do not torque a terminal more than once in its lifetime! You don't need to 'wiggle' the wire as you torque the terminal. You are not a torquing tool, so you can't possibly terminate a terminal without the proper tool, but a Dinosaur thinks they can. NFPA 70B, Section 8.11 recommends AGAINST “re-torque” terminations after the initial application of the proper torque during installation. It recommends using infrared scans and visual inspections to detect loose connections. If necessary, a torque tool set to 90% of the recommended torque value may be applied to the connection to detect a loose connection. Be sure to deenergize the circuit before applying the tool.
