Engineering the future of smarter cities. 🌆
Faculty and student researchers from FAU's College of Engineering and Computer Science are helping transform downtown West Palm Beach into a living laboratory for intelligent infrastructure through research with I-SENSE: The Institute for Smarter Cities, Spaces, and Health.
As a partner institution in the National Science Foundation's Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3), FAU researchers are using I-SENSE's smart streetscape testbed to deploy connected sensors, environmental monitoring systems, and intelligent imaging technologies that help better understand pedestrian movement, transportation patterns, weather conditions, and the urban environment. These real-world insights help communities make smarter, safer, and more informed decisions.
By combining sensing technologies, artificial intelligence, and connected infrastructure, FAU researchers are advancing innovations that improve how cities operate while providing students with hands-on research experiences that address real-world engineering challenges.

Florida Atlantic University has received a $1 million gift from the Levine Family Foundation to establish the Michael R. Levine AI-Enabled Hands-On Engineering Lab at the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The lab will offer students practical artificial intelligence experiences, with a focus on real-world challenges, applied learning and career readiness.

Quantum training in action at Florida Atlantic University's College of Engineering and Computer Science ⚛️
Over the past several days, members of our faculty participated in an intensive, hands-on D-Wave training focused on quantum computing, programming applications, and next-generation optimization technologies.
As Florida's first university to publicly host a dedicated on-campus quantum computer, FAU is building foundational infrastructure that expands access to advanced computing technologies for research, education, and workforce development.
The training provided faculty with direct engagement alongside D-Wave experts as they explored real-world applications across AI, robotics, intelligent infrastructure, logistics, energy, and autonomous systems.
