Root & Rise Clinical Specialists
Root & Rise Clinical Specialists is a boutique psychotherapy practice co-founded by Kristina Scaglione, LCSW-R and Julie Stark, LCSW. Insurance Not Accepted.
You can heal your trauma… and still feel something when it’s touched.
That doesn’t mean you “didn’t do the work.”
It means you’re human.
Healing isn’t emotional anesthesia.
It’s regulation.
It’s choice.
It’s not getting hijacked for three days.
It’s being able to say, “That still feels tender,” without spiraling.
Scar tissue is strong.
But it can still feel the weather change.
If you’ve ever thought,
“Why does this still bother me? I thought I healed this.”
You probably did.
Sensitivity after healing isn’t failure.
It’s integration.
If this resonates, save it.
If someone needs to hear it, send it.
And if you’re ready to do the kind of work that builds strength without shutting you down.
Root & Rise Clinical Specialists is here.

Burnout in college students and young adults does not always look dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like:
• sleeping all day but still feeling exhausted
• struggling to focus
• feeling emotionally numb
• low motivation and disconnection
• irritability or shutting down
• constantly feeling overwhelmed
• losing interest in things you used to enjoy
And because many students are still functioning on the outside, people often mistake emotional exhaustion for laziness.
But burnout is not a character flaw.
It’s often the nervous system’s response to chronic stress, pressure, emotional overload, perfectionism, anxiety, and prolonged overwhelm.
At Root & Rise Clinical Specialists, we support college students and young adults navigating:
• burnout and emotional exhaustion
• anxiety and nervous system dysregulation
• identity shifts and life transitions
• academic pressure and overwhelm
• returning home after college
• emotional regulation and coping skills
• fear about the future or returning to school
You do not need to “push harder” to heal.
Sometimes your nervous system needs support, rest, boundaries, emotional processing, and space to recover.

You don’t need more information.
You need a different way of seeing it.
Most people can explain their patterns.
They know why they react.
They understand their triggers.
They’ve talked about it, over and over.
And yet… nothing actually shifts.
Because insight alone doesn’t create change.
Perspective does.
The Stark Contrast™ was created to help you see what’s been there the whole time, the patterns, the emotional loops, the internal narratives running in the background.
Not through more talking.
Not through surface-level prompts.
Through a shift that actually lands.
We created a teaser so you can experience that difference for yourself.

Coming home after college can feel emotionally confusing in ways many people don’t expect.
You spent months learning independence, creating new routines, discovering different parts of yourself, and adapting to life away from home.
Then suddenly… you’re back in your childhood environment, trying to figure out where the “new version” of you fits in.
A lot of college students and young adults quietly struggle with:
• anxiety and emotional overwhelm
• identity shifts and uncertainty
• family dynamic stress
• nervous system overload
• emotional exhaustion and burnout
• guilt for needing independence or space
• feeling emotionally “stuck” or misunderstood
At Root & Rise Clinical Specialists, we help young adults navigate the emotional realities of:
• transitioning home after college
• burnout and adjustment stress
• anxiety and emotional regulation
• identity development and life transitions
• homesickness and returning to school anxiety
• family relationship challenges
• taking time off school or changing direction
This doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re adjusting to a major developmental and emotional transition.
And transitions can deeply impact the nervous system—even when they’re expected.

Anxiety often grows when we try to control everything:
• outcomes
• people
• timing
• relationships
• uncertainty
• how others perceive us
But healing starts when we learn the difference between:
what needs our energy…and what is draining it.
You cannot control every situation.
But you can learn how to regulate your nervous system, respond differently, create healthier boundaries, and stop carrying the weight of everything all at once.
At Root & Rise Clinical Specialists, we help clients build:
• emotional regulation
• healthier coping strategies
• nervous system awareness
• anxiety management tools
• self-trust and resilience
• deeper insight into patterns and triggers
Because peace doesn’t come from controlling everything.
It comes from learning how to ground yourself through uncertainty.

We’re not in-network, and that’s intentional.
At Root & Rise Clinical Specialists, we’ve deliberately chosen to remain private pay.
Not because we don’t care about access, but because we care deeply about the quality, depth, and integrity of the work.
Insurance often prioritizes:
speed over depth
diagnoses over nuance
session limits over clinical judgment
That’s not how meaningful therapy works.
Curated care requires boundaries.
It allows us to:
✔ Match you with the right clinician—not just the next available
✔ Work at a pace that supports real change
✔ Integrate modalities intentionally (not restrict them)
✔ Protect your privacy and autonomy
This is Mental Wealth-Care™, not crisis-driven, one-size-fits-all therapy.
And it’s designed for people who are ready to invest in doing the work well, not just quickly.

“I shouldn’t feel this overwhelmed—I have a good life.”
“Why do I keep ending up in the same relationship dynamic?”
“I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t really work.”
If this sounds like your internal dialogue, please read it again.
Because this isn’t confusion.
It’s a pattern.
And this is exactly where deeper work begins.
At Root & Rise Clinical Specialists, we work with high-functioning individuals who look “fine” on the outside but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or stuck in the same cycles underneath.
This isn’t surface-level support.
This is intentional, depth-oriented therapy that gets to the root of what’s actually driving those patterns.
Because insight alone isn’t enough.
Real change happens when your system is ready to process what’s been unresolved.
If therapy hasn’t worked before, it doesn’t mean you’re the problem.
It might mean the work never went deep enough, or wasn’t the right fit.

Unpopular opinion, but it needs to be said:
Therapy is not a subscription you cancel when it gets uncomfortable.
If you’re only showing up when it feels good, you’re not doing therapy; you’re avoiding the exact work that creates change.
Real therapy isn’t:
• quick
• convenient
• surface-level
• interchangeable
Real therapy is:
• consistent
• intentional
• uncomfortable at times
• built on trust and depth
This is where people get it wrong; they expect transformation without tolerating discomfort.
That’s not how this works.
At Root & Rise Clinical Specialists, we don’t do “check-the-box” therapy.
We do depth-oriented, results-driven work that actually changes patterns, not just talks about them.
This is Mental Wealth Care™.
And it requires more than showing up when it’s easy.
If this shifted your perspective, that’s the point.

What happens when therapists stop approaching healing from a one-size-fits-all model?
At Root & Rise Clinical Specialists, therapy was built differently on purpose.
Co-founders Kristina Scaglione and Julie Stark created Root & Rise from the belief that mental health treatment should feel collaborative, action-oriented, personalized, and deeply human, not cold, transactional, or surface-level.
This practice was developed through years of clinical experience, personal growth, trauma work, relationship work, nervous system understanding, and the recognition that many people are exhausted from simply “coping” without truly changing the patterns that keep them stuck.
At Root & Rise, therapy may support individuals navigating:
• anxiety and chronic stress
• trauma and PTSD
• relationship and attachment issues
• burnout and emotional exhaustion
• identity exploration and life transitions
• perfectionism and people-pleasing
• ADHD and neurodivergence
• couples therapy and communication struggles
• nervous system dysregulation
• high-functioning anxiety
• emotional overwhelm and self-worth struggles
We believe therapy should help people actively reshape how they move through life, emotionally, relationally, mentally, and behaviorally.

Nobody talks enough about the anxiety of going back to college.
As summer starts winding down, many students begin carrying:
• dread about returning
• fear of repeating the same struggles
• anxiety about academics and social pressure
• homesickness before they even leave
• burnout and emotional exhaustion
• pressure to “get it together this year”
And because everyone else seems excited online, students often feel ashamed admitting they’re struggling.
But returning to school after a difficult year can activate real nervous system stress, not weakness.
At Root & Rise Clinical Specialists, we support college students and young adults navigating:
• anxiety about returning to campus
• social anxiety and loneliness
• emotional overwhelm and burnout
• life transitions and identity shifts
• homesickness and adjustment struggles
• academic pressure and perfectionism
• relationship and friendship stress
You do not have to wait until you’re falling apart to ask for support.
Therapy can help students build emotional regulation, resilience, coping tools, self-understanding, and confidence before heading back into another school year.
